Week 33 ~ New Companion...Elder Millett

e-mail
July 16, 2012

Hello family!

So yes, I am still a Senior Companion.   I will be a Senior the rest of the mission as long as I do everything right.  Elder Millett is my new companion, and he was finishing his training with me this last week so it's interesting.   He is pretty funny, and it's always interesting to get somebody that is newer in the mission.  I´m still trying to help him and teach him what we´re here to do by helping people, especially baptizing people because that is our calling and the best thing we can help people do!  Elder Carrell is having a blast now with Elder Castro.  Elder Castro is our new zone leader here, and its crazy living with a zone leader, but he is super fun...so no problems on that.
This last week was just pretty normal... not too much happened.  We met some people that are really good.  We are teaching an older woman, Divina, who was taught a long time ago and her son was baptized but now doesn't go to church, so we´re trying to help her set the example for her family, but she has a few problems especially with her leg, so we´re just helping.  Tamara, Talia, and Bruno are still in Londrina, but I think they are coming back this week so that is good!  We had a party for the branch the other night because of some "Festa Juninho"... so that was really fun and we got some contacts there.  It seemed like the members and some family members/friends had fun!
Now with the debit card...  this last week I took out about $100 worth just for emergencies, and I don't plan to use it for like a month.  Usually all I use the card for is just food to be honest because our money on the mission cards run out so fast because of taking the bus, and lunches that fall through...in our area we are supposed to get 60 reals more for the bus and lunches, but we haven't gotten it yet so usually I just use personal money for that when necessary, but now I don't plan to use the card for a good while.
Well, other than that, we are just searching, teaching, and trying to help people.  Sometimes its tough, but now I just look at that quote everyday and try to remember that this is the Lords work, and he will help us as long as we do our part.  President Tavares sent that article in a letter, and it is really great to motivate everybody just to have confidence or finish strong!
Well, I´m gonna go now.  Have a great week!  I love you guys tons, and thank you for all that you do!  I still haven´t gotten the package yet, but I think I will this week!  Lets see!  Tell everybody hi for me!  Especially the pep and the boys.  Love you!

Love,
Elder Halpin

Week 32 ~ Transfer Day

e`mail
July 9, 2012

Hello family!!!

How is everything going?  So this week was a lot of running around.  First of all with Talia and Tamara...they left for Londrina for 2 weeks!  So now we´re just waiting for them to get back.  The rules with the Word of Wisdom is 4 days with coffee, black tea, alcohol, and cigarettes and 1 month for drugs like weed and crack.  7 days for breaking the law of chastity.  Other than that, this week was just running around because we found a "cemetery" of ex-investigators.  We had a great branch conference yesterday, and I hope this starts a turn-around for our branch and excites everybody!  So, we did not have any baptisms this week but we´re still just working hard and searching.
Before transfers we had a P-Day with President Tavares today because literally our zone is the best zone of the mission!  We had a little training session with him this morning, and afterwards we played volleyball and basketball and chilled with him.  Then after, we went to lunch in normal clothes, it was pretty weird...  then after we went back to the ward house and he announced transfers.  Elder Carrell and I will stay in Alvorada and the new companion of Elder Carrell is one of the Zone Leaders and my new companion is Elder Millet, my first American companion!  I am super excited for that!   Our address is still the same, so maybe send whatever you want to really quickly to the house address here in Apucarana.  Maybe some cards with more pictures.
So that was pretty much my week, not to much exciting but still just working hard and I´m super stoked for a new transfer to start.  Pass my love to everybody, especially Grandma Jane!  Tell her I am praying for her and hope she gets better!   I love you tons and hope you have a great week.  Oh with the money, our lunch falls through a lot here so its mainly just food that I´m buying.  Also I bought all three Hunger Games books in Portuguese so that could be a big purchase and I´ll send a package home with the books soon and other things I don't want to carry around.   Thank you for everything.  I love you tons.  Tell Al and Jack thanks for the notes.  Tell Alec that a Brazilian team here just beat a Argentinian team in a big game and now Corinthians (the Brazilian team) will play against Chelsea to determine who is the best team of the world this year ha ha ha!  Tell everybody I love them and tell Al, Jack and Pep I love them.  Have a great week!  Tchau!

Love,

Hello Family!

What a week I had!  So much happened that literally yesterday after lunch I was so tired that I almost fell asleep while eating at a members house! ha ha.  So this past week, we were running about searching and searching for the right people.  We found some ex investigators in the area book a few weeks ago, and have been working with them for a bit.  They are a family of 7, João Ivan (step dad) Roseagela (mom) and they are not married so that's tough, John (19 and uses weed and crack so he has to wait a month) Igor (18 and never met him yet) Bruno (16), Talia (14) and Tamara (8).  So a pretty big family with a few problems.  On Friday night we were there and everybody showed up so we taught about the plan of salvation!  It was a great lesson and really spiritual, but before we started, we just got to know each other, so Bruno opened up more and in the end, Bruno and Tamara committed to be baptized yesterday, and Talia was a little iffy.  Yesterday, they had their interviews and Talia drank coffee, so a no go with her but both Bruno and Tamara passed and wanted to be baptized, so we had to run and get the authorization of their mom.  She said that Bruno could be baptized but to wait with Tamara.  Now we have Thursday set up to baptize Tamara and Talia, so pray for them and to help soften the heart of their mom.
That was pretty much our week, just talking to everybody and teaching this family a lot.  We definitely saw a miracle happen and I know without the Lord´s help we cannot do anything, but with Him anything is possible.
It sounds like you guys had a good week.  What car were you in when you ran over the ladder???  Any thing bad happen??? That's pretty scary!  It is finally awesome to have all of the guys out, and tell Seth that for sure we should make a trip with all of us!!!   Everything is going good with us, just Elder Carrell and his companion have some difficulties because his comp. is a little lazy at times so it's interesting.  Next Monday is transfers, and to be honest I have no idea what will happen here!  So next week I´ll let you know what happens.  After next week, can you send me some cards with pictures of everybody?  But wait until we know what happens next week ok?  Also, can you get me the addresses of all the guys and their mission homes???
Well that's about all for this week.  Thank you so much for all you do.  I love you tons, and hope you guys have a great week!  Tell everybody hi for me and wish Seth good luck for me.

Love,
Elder Halpin
